As part of our ongoing commitment to professional learning, Salesian College staff recently participated in the Youth Mental Health First Aid course. This is an accredited program that aims to support staff in the early recognition and intervention of various mental illnesses common in young people aged 12-18. Don Bosco’s preventative system acknowledges the foundations Religion, Reason and Loving Kindness, staff who undertook the MHFA program worked to develop their skills in recognition the early symptoms of common mental illness in Australia together with the appropriate response steps to provide initial help before professional support can be obtained.
In recognition of the wider challenges surrounding mental health in Australia, Salesian College Chadstone warmly welcomed staff from Salesian College Sunbury and St Scholastica’s Primary School as we collectively work towards better mental health first aid intervention across our schools.
