7A’s Outstanding Work in Visual Arts
This semester, our Year 7A Art class has truly shined, demonstrating creativity, discipline, and artistic growth as they explored the foundational elements of visual art. The students have worked with enthusiasm and curiosity, taking their learning from theory to practice through a diverse range of artmaking experiences.
Early in the term, students were introduced to the core art elements—line, shape, colour, tone, form, texture, and space. These fundamental principles provided the foundation for experimenting across different media and techniques. Students engaged in practical workshops and visual investigations, building the skills needed to develop their own expressive ideas.
Once confident with the elements of art, students applied them in two major projects:
Students explored relief printing and created dynamic compositions using repeated shapes and patterns. Their designs showcased their ability to balance positive and negative space and demonstrated a growing understanding of composition and design principles.
Building on their printmaking experience, students developed individual paintings that reflected their personal style and the techniques they had learned. These resolved artworks displayed careful application of colour theory, layering, and brush techniques, resulting in vibrant and engaging final pieces.
One of the standout features of 7A’s work has been their Visual Arts Diaries. Each diary provides a rich record of the students’ artistic journey, including:
- Skill development and experimentations
- Written reflections on learning
- Research on artists and artworks
- Design planning and process documentation
These diaries highlight not only their technical development but also the maturity of their creative thinking and willingness to take risks artistically.
The dedication and effort shown by 7A is something to be celebrated. Their resolved artworks and process documentation reflect not only growing artistic capability but also the Salesian values of perseverance, craftsmanship, and pride in one’s work.
