ACC Spelling Bee

2025 Inaugural Year 7 ACC Spelling Bee

On Monday 25 August, six Year 7 students from Salesian College Chadstone competed in the first-ever ACC Year 7 Spelling Bee, held at St Bede’s College, Mentone. After class and year-level tryouts, our team was ready to represent Salesian. There were 10 schools competing in this inaugural event.

The day began with a welcome by ACC Executive Officer Paul Fahey, followed by two fun icebreaker quizzes. We placed 1st and 2nd in those activities – plus, we won Fruit Chews, which made it even better!

After lunch, we entered the auditorium for the main event: the ACC Spelling Championship. The tension was real, especially when the first contestant was eliminated immediately. Salesian held strong, with all six boys surviving until Round 4.

By Round 6, only three spellers remained: one from Simonds, one from Parade, and myself from Salesian. The words got tougher, and we kept stumbling, dragging the contest all the way to Round 16. Then came my turn. The word was “fallacious.” After I recited the letters, the judge nodded, signalling I spelled it right. Jubilation ran through me as I realised I was the first ACC Spelling Champion! And to make it even better, Salesian College came out as the overall team winners!

Finally, a big thank you to Ms McGrath and Ms Rabot for supporting us, and to my amazing teammates: Angad, Aidan, Zac, Stratos, and James. We all did brilliantly, and you all definitely deserve the credit. Hopefully, this competition grows so more students can experience the thrill of the Spelling Bee!
