Today, our College community came together for our annual Walkathon, a much loved tradition that brings students and staff together in a shared spirit of connection, participation and joy. The event also coincided with National Reconciliation Week where our community continued to learn about shared histories, cultures and achievements in order to continuing our exploration into the ongoing reconciliation journey.
The day began with a Welcome to Country at both campuses from Uncle Steve, who welcomed us to Country and shared his knowledge of the land, its history and its ongoing significance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As part of the welcome, Uncle Steve shared stories and insights that encouraged us to deepen our understanding of Country and our responsibility to care for the places and communities we are part of. Experiences such as these are an important part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and growing our understanding of First Nations cultures and perspectives.
Following the Welcome to Country, students and staff took part in the Walkathon, embracing the opportunity to be active together while celebrating one of our core Salesian Values: Joy. More than just a walk, the event was a chance to strengthen relationships, enjoy each other’s company and contribute to the vibrant community that makes Salesian College Chadstone such a special place.
We thank Uncle Steve for sharing his wisdom with our community and our staff and students for their enthusiasm and participation throughout the day. Experiences such as these are an important part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation as we continue to learn, listen and walk together.
