Recitation of the Rosary – Religion and Society Units 3/4 class

On Thursday lunchtime last week in the College Chapel, the Religion and Society Units 3/4 class hosted the recitation of the Rosary, a very well-established Catholic devotion in the month of May. This was led by our 2023 Captain of Liturgy, Oscar Biviano, and our Captain of Oratory, Marcus Churchill King, with Sam Gould, Brodie Grewcock, and Jett Banyai who was our leader for the Third Glorious Mystery which we said in Latin. Our class had also studied the Rosary in terms of the Nine Aspects of religion which underpin our VCE course. This helped us to appreciate in particular the role of belief, sacred text, ritual, symbols, and spiritual experience in the construction of this prayer as a devotional event. We had also learnt to sing the Latin plainsong chant “Salve Regina” which is an ancient Catholic tradition in honour of Mary as the Queen of Heaven. It was great to have some staff and boys from other classes join us on this occasion.
