Year 9 Students Host Seniors On The Move

Salesian College Chadstone recently welcomed a group of local senior citizens to the College as part of the Monash City Council Seniors on the Move program.

A number of Year 9 students were involved in hosting the day through their Oratory groups, creating a warm and welcoming environment for our visitors. Throughout the day students and guests shared a range of activities designed to encourage conversation, connection and community.

The program included an arts and crafts session, a games activity and the preparation and serving of lunch. Students worked together to organise the meal before sitting down to share it with their guests, creating an opportunity for meaningful conversations between generations.

For many of the seniors, the day provided a valuable social outlet. For our students, it was an opportunity to spend time listening to the experiences and stories of older members of the community, gaining insight and perspective that can only come from these kinds of interactions.

The day also included a musical performance by students Raf and Remi, who performed on cello and clarinet, providing a special accompaniment.

The feedback from our visitors was overwhelmingly positive, with one guest sharing that the experience had “restored her faith in the younger generation.”

Opportunities like this reflect the importance of community engagement at Salesian College Chadstone, giving students the chance to contribute their time while building meaningful connections with others.
