VCE Theatre Production – The Gamblers

The 2025 VCE Theatre Studies class are presenting their interpretation of Nikolai Gogol’s comical mockery of greed and deception: The Gamblers.

The work is a provocative satire that highlights the avarice of the middle classes through a character using marked playing cards while gambling. Gogol’s highly comic and absurdist writing shows us that pride most definitely comes before a fall.

This VCE Assessment is a demanding one. Staging a full-length play is a challenging piece of work and the class has worked very hard both as actors and also as part of the creative team: directing and designing the set, lighting, audio, costumes and props.

The VCE Theatre Studies Performance of The Gamblers by Nikolai Gogol is on May 15th and 16th at 7pm in the theatre at Salesian College Chadstone. The performance runs for about 100 minutes with one interval.

Light refreshments will be available free of charge in the Gallery at pre-show and interval. Limited parking is available on site, please allow time to find a spot.

Date: Thursday 15th May & Friday 16th May
Time: 7pm – 9pm
