Salesian College Chadstone Wins Child and Youth Empowerment Award

We are proud to share that our Child Safety Committee has been recognised by the Commission for Children and Young People and Victorian Government for its outstanding work, winning the Child and Youth Empowerment Award in the 2025 Victoria Protecting Children Awards.

This award recognises an individual, team or organisation who has achieved excellence in realising children’s and young people’s right to meaningfully participate in matters affecting them.

Our Child Safety Committee, designed and implemented in collaboration between staff and students, exists to strengthen child safety and ensure that the student voice is at the heart of decisions that affect them. Students are empowered to present ideas, seek feedback from peers and design initiatives. Items are discussed at committee meetings, with student voices informing decisions for how to deliver solutions and offer support. Our Student Concerns process, built by the committee, is an accessible and confidential system to built to promptly respond to and integrate student feedback in our school.

The committee has been commended as a “great example of student agency and empowerment”, reflecting Salesian College Chadstone’s belief that student voice and agency are essential to building a safe and inclusive school environment.
