ACC Reconciliation Match

Our Senior Football Team proudly took part in the ACC Reconciliation Football Match against St Bede’s College, hosted at Salesian College Chadstone.
The day brought together students, staff, families and members of both school communities in the spirit of reconciliation, recognising and honouring the histories, cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The occasion began with a special Opening Ceremony led by 2026 Salesian College Chadstone Captain Xavier Arnott and Performing Arts Leader Darcy Humphries. A highlight of the ceremony was a Smoking Ceremony conducted by Willie Pepper, providing an opportunity for reflection and appreciation of this important cultural tradition of cleansing, healing and welcome.

Before the game, representatives from Salesian College Chadstone and St Bede’s College participated in a jumper exchange, symbolising friendship, respect and sportsmanship between the two schools. The ceremony also celebrated the story behind our Indigenous Football Jumper, designed in 2023 by Ky-ya Nicholson Ward in collaboration with Year 12 students, representing community, belonging, connection and the journey of our students.

Salesian came up against strong competition from St Bede’s College, with St Bede’s recording a 114–47 victory. While the result did not go our way, the match was played in great spirit.

We extend our gratitude to Willie Pepper, St Bede’s College, the ACC and the Salesian College Chadstone students, staff and families who helped make the day possible. The match provided an important opportunity to come together, learn from one another and continue the journey of reconciliation.
