Don Bosco’s Oratory Week

Don Bosco Oratory Week 2019 will soon be upon us! It takes places from Monday 17 June – Friday 21 June, with the week beginning with our Walkathon and ending with Salesian Festival Day on Friday 21 June. Each year Don Bosco’s Oratory Week has a number of focusses; including fun, education and fundraising. This year our Salesian fundraising focus is Cambodia. We are really looking forward to this partnership growing as we plan our inaugural immersion trip to Cambodia in 2020. Br Michael from Cambodia visited us last year and made some wonderful connections with our boys whilst sharing his story and experiences of his work in Salesian schools in Cambodia.

The Salesians of Don Bosco came to Cambodia on 24 May 1991; they arrived in Phnom Penh (the capital of Cambodia) by invitation from the government of Cambodia.

The Don Bosco Foundation of Cambodia (DBFC) is a non-profit organisation, who through education and pedagogical work are supporting the poor youth of Cambodia, empowering them to find their place in society and live an independent and fulfilling life.

Here is a video further explaining the work of the Don Bosco Foundation of Cambodia.

Below are a few reminders:

Walkathon

I trust that the boys are beginning to collect as many sponsors as they can to help us fulfil our target of $50,000. It is a great opportunity to move outside their comfort zone and engage in an act of social justice. It is expected that all forms and money are returned to school by Monday 17 June. For every $10 raised, boys will receive 1 Citizenship point (equal to 2 merits) and House Points for fundraising. They will also go into a draw to in win a Culture Kings Voucher, Lux Hoyts voucher or a Bluetooth speaker worth over $200.

International Food Order Forms

Indian curry, Roll’d and pizza is available throughout the week for lunch orders. Please make sure you get in your order forms with the correct money by Friday 7 June (no late orders taken).

Earn and Learn

We have once again registered for the Woolies Earn and Learn program. Please pop your stickers in an envelope marked with your House (House points to be won). These will be converted into educational items that will also be sent to Cambodia.

We are really looking forward to a wonderful week of joy-filled Salesianity. Watch this space for more details regarding Salesian Festival Day!
