RUA Resource Centre News

Below, our Head of Information Services Mrs Khambete shares some key Term 2 Rua Resource Centre activities. These activities have been developed to foster a love of reading, and encourage our students to develop their problem solving and creativity skills within an enjoyable environment.

Lego Tournament – Eight teams from Years 7, 8 and 10 competed in our Term 2 Lego Tournament. It was extremely  difficult for the judges to decide the winners as all the participants were very talented and creative. Please see the photos below of some of the Lego creations. Our lucky winners of the Term 2 Lego Tournament were Billy Ryan and Noah Phillips in Year 7. They each received a Lego set as prizes. Congratulations, boys!

Electronics – Our regular electronics Thursday lunch time sessions in Term 2 were enjoyed by a few students. Students worked with LEDs, cables, motors and more. They were shown how to create a simple program and create an electronic item.

Virtual Reality Sessions –  Every Wednesday during lunch time students virtually visited some incredible locations across the world, with the help of You Tube 3D videos.

Premier’s Reading Challenge – This state-wide challenge started in Week 3, Term 2. Many students from Years 7,8,9 and 10 are enjoying reading books listed in the challenge. Some students have already completed reading the minimum number of books required to complete this challenge.  Seven students will be awarded Champion Badges at the end of Term 3. Champions will be decided based on the total number of books read in Term 2 and 3.

Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover Display – To add a bit of an excitement and encourage students to read outside of their comfort zone, a display was put together in RRC. As you can see in the photo, books were covered and a line from the book was added on the cover to help students in deciding which book to borrow.

Lunch time Activities – Lego and Board Games

In Terms 1 and 2 , the RRC purchased some popular board games like Jenga, Monopoly and Chess. Our below photo shows some regular RRC visitors enjoying playing with these board games at lunch time.

Easter Book Quiz – Our end of Term 1 Easter Book Quiz was very popular. Over 350 students attempted this quiz challenge and answered all the questions. I was pleasantly surprised to see our participation numbers and the fact that many of the questions were correctly answered. Congratulations to all the participants for taking up this challenge. Five lucky winners each received $10.00 canteen vouchers.
