Capital Works Program Update

The return of the boys on Friday 31 January 2020 heralded the completion of an extensive capital works program across the College over the Xmas/New Year period. Works commenced early December 2019 on the refurbishment of the Murdoch and De Sales building. These works included:

Murdoch Building

  • The south section of the building was refurbished with the installation of glass walls in 6 classrooms across both levels to support PBL (Project Based Learning)
  • New carpets and internal painting of the south section
  • Installation of LED lighting & sensors in classrooms

De Sales Building

  • Lowering the external wall height of three (3) ground floor classrooms, facing the upper courtyard, to 1 metre, and installing new windows to open up natural light to these classrooms
  • New carpets and internal painting of the whole building
  • Minor works in the senior & junior toilets
  • Installation of LED lighting & sensors in classrooms

Along with the Murdoch and De Sales building refurbishment works, additional works across the College included:

Mannix Building

  • Internal painting & tinting of north side windows (Carpeting will be installed during the Term 1, 2020 school holiday period)

Bosco Centre Cricket Wicket & Practice Wickets Upgrade

  • The centre cricket wicket was widened and replaced with new synthetic grass along with the extension of bowler run ups in the cricket nets

Outdoor Timber  Decking Rejuvenation Program

  • Resanding and the application of coatings across the outdoor timber decking on the Bosco Campus, particularly around the Chapel stairs and landing

Temporary Portable Classrooms

  • Two (2) Portable Classrooms were installed temporarily on the upper courtyard of the Bosco Campus in December 2019 to meet increased student enrolments while the College seeks Council permission to install four permanent classrooms in 2020.

I am pleased to advise that all works were completed on time and have provided a fresh look to buildings across both campuses.

The week commencing Monday 27 January 2020 saw an extensive “bump in” program underway to install classroom furniture and all floor and wall furnishings across the three (3) refurbished buildings, along with the relocation of the Year 7 cohort to the Murdoch building. The Facilities Team did a mighty job, in trying conditions late that week, to have the College ready for the boys return.

Upcoming Works In 2020 For The Facilities Team Include:

  • Develop a new specification & undertake market testing for the cleaning contract
  • Develop a systematic approach to the management and operations of the College’s Building Asset Management Planning (BAMP)
  • Implement a new system of identifying, reporting and managing cyclical and preventative building & fleet maintenance across the College
  • Review/assess and recommend a plan around business continuity to meet the challenges of incidents affecting the operations of the College in the future.
