This morning, Salesian College Chadstone staff gathered around our staffroom prayer table to pray for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis. In Period 1, our students joined in this moment of reflection, offering prayers for the Pope in their first class for Term 2.
Together, we offer this prayer:
Creator God,
Through the Easter mysteries we have just celebrated,
Your Son revealed the depth of your love for us
By his passion, death, and Resurrection.
He proved for all time your deep desire for us to return
To the fullness of your love when our earthly journeys are complete.
Your servant, Pope Francis, lived always in complete faithfulness
To the truth of your Son’s Resurrection,
Courageously leading the Catholic Church
And people of goodwill throughout the world with integrity, compassion, and love.
May the angels and the whole company of heaven
Welcome Francis into your eternal kingdom
Where his sufferings will be over,
And he will inherit the long-awaited reward for his faithfulness.
Inspire us who remain to follow the example of Francis
In showing to all the power of your compassion and love.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
Through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
