Batyr Mental Health ‘Future Proof’ Presentation

Batyr, a preventative mental health organisation recently visited Salesian to run their Future Proof Presentation for our Year 12’s. Batyr aims to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness and empower young people to reach out for support. The Future Proof session acknowledges the transition that Year 12’s encounter after graduating, and focuses on exploring positive strategies students can use to look after their mental health.

Here is what our students had to say about the session:

  • ‘The session was fun and engaging. It’s always enjoyable attending Batyr sessions. You can see that many students get involved.’
  • ‘The speaker shared some insightful personal stories. It’s confronting, but in a good way. The session really gives you a reality check.’
  • ‘It’s a good time in the year to have this presentation, as stress is high in Term 3 and there are a lot of assessments.’
  • ‘Mitch was a good talker, it was good hearing his story.’
  • ‘I enjoyed interacting with the speakers.’
  • ‘I liked the content of the presentation. They used funny videos to engage us, before talking about some of the serious things.’

Key learnings:

  • ‘We are not alone in this.’
  • ‘I learnt that I am not alone when it comes to stress and problems. There are other people going through the same thing, or worse.’
