Our Safety Culture

Standard 1

At Salesian College, we establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.

TO MEET THIS STANDARD THE COLLEGE MUST ENSURE

  • A child’s ability to express their culture and enjoy their cultural rights is encouraged and actively supported.
  • The acknowledgement and appreciation of the strengths of Aboriginal culture and understand its importance to the wellbeing and safety of Aboriginal children and young people.
  • Racism is identified, confronted and not tolerated.  Any instances of racism are addressed with appropriate consequences.
  • It actively supports and facilitates participation and inclusion by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
  • Our policies, procedures, systems and processes together create a culturally safe and inclusive environment and meet the needs of Aboriginal children, young people and their families.

  • Reconciliation Action Plan developed (2024) & Implemented (2025)
  • ATSI curriculum for Years 7, 9 & 11
  • Cultural Immersion Program for Staff & Students
  • Year 7 camp connections to Indigenous story
  • ACC Sport Reconciliation Round versus De La Salle College
  • Regeneration Projects partnership that will provide opportunities for staff and students to engage with indigenous people and culture
