Tech Week 2024

From July 29th to August 2nd, our school buzzed with excitement as students from various year levels participated in our annual Tech Week. The week was packed with engaging activities, creative projects, and plenty of opportunities to explore the world of technology, from practical to digital and even food-related. Here’s a highlight of the events that made Tech Week 2024 a memorable experience for everyone.

Year 7 Design Tech Projects: Throughout the week, Year 7 students put their creativity to the test in their Design Tech classes, working on a fun and innovative project to design an acrylic container for storage. A huge thank you to Mr. Marley and Mr. Yates for guiding the students and fostering their design skills. The best projects received canteen vouchers.

Kahoot Competitions: Lunchtime Kahoots were a hit! On Monday, Year 7 students kicked off the competition, followed by Year 8s on Tuesday, and Year 10s on Thursday. Held in N202, students brought their laptops, answered trivia questions, and competed for lollipops and canteen vouchers. Congratulations to all participants and winners!

Code Your Arcade Game in Scratch: Selected Year 7 students had the chance to dive into the world of game development by coding their own arcade game of Pong in Scratch, led by four dedicated Year 11 students. Participants not only gained valuable coding experience but also enjoyed lollipops and canteen vouchers for their efforts.

Sushi Rolling Competition: Wednesday brought a delicious challenge for nominated Year 10 students—the Sushi Rolling Competition! Hosted by Mrs. Kuszner, this event saw students rolling up their sleeves to create sushi masterpieces in the kitchen. With lollipops and canteen vouchers as rewards, the competition was as tasty as it was fun.

Robots, AI, and Future Careers Presentation: All Year 7 students attended an insightful and informative presentation on Robots, AI, and Future Careers by Sam Kingsley, a robotics expert from the esteemed ‘The Brainary’. This session provided a glimpse into the future of technology and inspired students to think about the exciting career opportunities that await them. Students also experienced a variety of hands-on activities, interactive sessions, and thought-provoking discussions.

Game Developer Workshop: The week wrapped up with a Game Developer Workshop. An indie company (DonoArts), comprising a professional game developer and his game producer, presented to a group of selected Year 8 and 9 students. An interactive demo game (Origami Ninja Star) provided an exciting look into the world of game development. The workshop was engaging, and students asked several questions regarding the career path of a game developer.

Tech Week 2024 was a fantastic success, filled with learning, laughter, and lots of lollipops and canteen vouchers! Technology is the future, and our students are the architects who will shape that future. We encourage them all to stay involved in this transformative field, for the world needs their brilliant minds to pave the way for progress and innovation.

A big thank you to all the students, teachers, and organisers who made this week possible. We can’t wait to see what next year’s Tech Week will bring!
