Shaping the Future: The Aspirational Masterplan for Salesian College Chadstone

The journey to develop a Masterplan for Salesian College Chadstone, across both campuses, commenced in April 2023 with the appointment of Mcildowie Partners after an extensive search for a likeminded Architect was undertaken early 2023. The College Masterplan is an aspirational roadmap in the development of the built form and surrounding open space and landscape across the Bosco & Mannix Campuses. The Masterplan and the College’s Building Asset Management Plan (BAMP) work interdependently ensuring the building stock and planned open spaces meet the current and future Learning & Teaching needs for our Students. Extensive consultation took place during the middle of 2023, reaching a wide audience with a vested interest in the development of the College including: Current Students, Parents, Alumni, Staff, College Board and connected Parish Schools and their Communities.

During the development of the College Masterplan and specifically through the Listening phase of the consultation process, a series of six (6) key Listening themes were developed, which would guide and underpin the final plan as a roadmap to the development of the College’s building stock and facilities for the next fifteen (15) years. The six (6) key themes include:
Welcome, Accessibility & Inclusivity,
Safety,
Circulation & Parking,
Campus Balance,
Expand Facilities
Campus Landscape.

The Masterplan is made up of 7 Stages which have been carefully considered in relation to their staging and timing in order to “unpack” the current building stock in order to focus on the development of the College’s Main Campus – Bosco Campus beyond the Stage 1 project at the Mannix Campus.

The College Board adopted the Masterplan in October 2023 with planning commencing in early 2024 for the design and construction of the Masterplan’s Stage 1 project, a new Year 7 Learning & Teaching building and refurbishment of the existing Mannix building. Delivery of the Stage 1 project will create a Year 7 & 8 Junior School precinct which will deliver a nurturing, student focused curriculum and environment to support the transition of our students from primary to secondary school. The College will appoint a builder in October 2024 with construction of the new Year 7 Learning & Teaching building and refurbishment of the existing Mannix building scheduled to commence by the end of 2024 and completed in 2026.
