Salesian College Chadstone congratulates Miss Ashleigh Jones for being shortlisted as Education Rising Star of the Year, of the prestigious 2024 Australian Education Awards.
We took a moment to speak to Ashleigh and listen to what inspired her to pursue a career in Teaching and to learn about what appeals most to her about teaching at Salesian College Chadstone.
“My passion for helping and inspiring others naturally led me to teaching.
The inspiration behind wanting to a pursue a career in teaching, however, lies within wanting to make a meaningful impact on the lives of many and help young men achieve their fullest potential.
I began my teaching career at Salesian College Chadstone as a Casual Relief Teacher during my final year of my Education Degree, progressing to a first-year graduate teacher. I was drawn to Salesian College for its alignment with my interests and ambitions – to positively impact young men’s mental health and wellbeing. The College has offered me numerous leadership opportunities and coaching, helping me achieve my goals in the wellbeing space, being to address men’s mental health and the stigma associated with men’s mental health.”
When ask what three points of advice she has for students, Ashleigh shared:
- “Speak about your mental health – Secondary School can present many challenges and for this reason, among others, it is ok to seek support
- Develop empathy – Secondary School provides you with many opportunities to see ourselves in those around us and understand others’ experiences
- Create a Mental Health ‘Toolkit’ – Gather a number of strategies that you can use in times of need, such as before an assessment or an ACC game. These strategies can include breathing techniques, journaling, and exercising mindfulness.”
We wish Ashleigh the best for the 2024 Australian Education Awards and thank her for her positive impact on students’ learning experiences and outcomes in the Salesian College Chadstone community.
