During term three Year 7 Literacy and Life studied the historical period of Ancient Egypt with a particular focus on the novel ‘‘Pharaoh: The Boy Who Conquered the Nile’, by Jackie French.
Through their studies the students were exposed to the world of Kings, conflict and a society with fascinating belief systems and values. Their understanding of French’s interpretation of this time period informed their culminating event where they designed and constructed a board game which conveyed their understanding of key characters, themes and social and cultural aspects of the text.
During this highly engaging unit, the students gained a better understanding of who we are as a society now, how we got here and what we learned along the way.
