How to Train your Dragon Film Study
As part of our Ancient Civilisations focus, this term we are focusing on Viking History. To do so we did a film review on the family adventure animation ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. I have enjoyed this way of learning as it was a good change of pace from reading books and suited the format of remote learning. From what was always a childhood favourite, I really began to appreciate the ways that the directors (Christopher Sanders and Dean Deblois) used cinematography to tell a story about belonging and acceptance – something that all Year 7s resonate with this year. As part of the unit, we are currently exploring essay writing as we analyse the historical context and cinematic techniques in the film. Overall, this unit of work has been an enjoyable challenge to finish off the year.
