ACC Junior Public Speaking Competition

“ACC Debating was a challenging, thrilling and valuable experience. When I realized that I was on an ACC Team, I was needless to say very excited. I was looking forward what was to come and was ready to journey through this new concept with my peers. The experience was something I will never forget, the nervous but confident feeling you get just before the debate starts, and the rush of excitement as the adjudicator calls you up for your speech and the sense of accomplishment as you finish. Being able to get the chance to represent Salesian College in ACC was exciting, nerve-racking but also rewarding. Everybody on the day really outdid themselves, even though for most of us it was the first time we did anything like this, we all managed to push through this challenge and gain some valuable experience. Finally I would like to give a huge thank you to Ms. Carey for giving me and my peers this wonderful opportunity.”

“On Monday 9 November 2020, I and three other boys from Years 7 and 8 participated in the ACC Junior Public Speaking Competition. With the challenges of Covid-19 and the need to social distance and limit travel, the competition took place online over a Zoom meeting, which covered the course of the school day. The other public speakers and I competed against three other schools including Mazenod, De La Salle, and St. Joseph’s Ferntree Gully. With preparation we were able to present excellently, and place first amongst these other schools in order to claim victory. The day was filled with support from the leader of the junior public speakers, Miss Carey, who was able to help organise the day for us. Overall, we were able to have a memorable and enjoyable day, despite the challenging conditions, thanks to both the dedication of the competitions administrators and Miss Carey herself for organising this event for us.”
