“On Monday 24 June, Ms Bonne and Ms Barcelona took 22 of their Italian students to the Dante Alighieri poetry competition in Carlton. Thanks to Mr Verbyla who drove us into Carlton, we arrived at Melbourne University to recite our poem in front of a judge. All the boys did their best to remember their lines and to maintain good pronunciation. Following this, we walked up and down Lygon Street before eating pizza in a pre-booked Italian style pizza restaurant. After a great meal we walked back along Lygon Street and ate at Brunetti’s. Although the main aspect of the day was the poetry, the most enjoyable experience was easily the food that we got to eat. Overall, taking part in this competition was beneficial to our Italian learning as it made us all more confident in our Italian speaking, learning to pronounce and communicate the language better. Thank you to Ms Barcelona and Ms Bonne for organising this excursion and providing us with such a great experience.”
