Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition

On the 25th of June, 19 students in Years 9, 10 and 12 represented Salesian College in the Dante Alighieri Italian Poetry Competition at Melbourne University. It was an awesome day for us as Year 9’s, since it was our inaugural experience. It was also a bittersweet time for the Year 12’s, who enjoyed it as much as we did, but sadly for the last time. We had a chance to wake up and prepare for our recital at Brunetti’s, and drink hot chocolate and coffee. There were many Italian pastries and cakes, and our mouths were watering as we walked! We competed with other schools by reciting our poems fluently in front of an Italian judge. After the competition, we went to Lygon Street to eat pizza at Papa Gino’s, and experience some more of the Italian culture. We were allowed some free time in Lygon Street to eat Italian gelato and explore the area. It was an exciting day, and a valuable experience for all. It was ‘eccellente e molto divertente!’
