Mother’s Day Mass and Breakfast

Today our College community celebrated Mother’s Day with our traditional Mass and Breakfast. This year we broke records, having over 300 people in attendance!

The morning simply couldn’t have been possible without our amazing Parents’ Association who brought the morning together with an abundant supply of delicious food and hot chocolate (to name just two things) on a freezing Melbourne morning.

Our Mass celebrated the beauty of motherhood with a retelling of the story of how Mamma Margaret (Don Bosco’s mother) raised him, and the special relationship she shared with him. Father eloquently spoke in his sermon about the sacrifice that Mary (mother of Jesus) made for her Son, as well as how all mothers give of themselves for their children, and in our case, their sons. We ended Mass with a beautiful reflection acknowledging the Mums of our boys, and needless to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the Chapel!

The boys then escorted their mums to the Hall to share breakfast together and on the way presented them with a flower and a blessed engraved medallion. A very special thank you to our PA and Barb Monaghan for the lovely breakfast which was enjoyed by all.

It is these special moments that we spend with our children that fill our hearts with love. As mothers we understand that we hold our child’s hand for a moment, and their heart for a lifetime.

A big shout out to all the Mums in our community and important mother figures who continue to guide us through their actions or memory. Happy (early) Mother’s Day!
