The Easter period does not end on Easter Sunday. It is a whole season of 50 days, ending on Pentecost Sunday. The Resurrection is the foundation of our Catholic Faith. The Gospel recognises that to believe in the resurrection without that physical, personal encounter with Jesus is to be celebrated even more. Happy are we, blessed are we, who have not seen and yet still believe!
At our Resurrection Mass, Father Frank explained to the students the important link between Easter Sunday and the Salesians. It was on Easter Sunday in 1934 that Don Bosco was declared a Saint. Don Bosco is the only Saint to ever have been declared a Saint on this day. And, it was on Easter Sunday that Don Bosco found a ‘fixed’ place for his first Oratory for the boys in Valdocco.
We were all able to celebrate this great event with a Year Level Mass. As students processed up the aisle to carry candles, the holy oils, the bread and wine and a white garment, a reader explained the symbolic meaning behind the item each student was carrying. We started with Year 12s and 7s and this week the rest of the year levels participated in this very symbolic Mass. Some of the Year 7s commented with, ‘It was a very interesting mass’, ‘I didn’t know about all those things’, and ‘I really enjoyed the Mass’.
All students participated with great respect. Thank you to the Year Level Coordinators and the teachers who prepared the students. A special thanks to Father Frank, who is always great with the students.
