Year 10 Retreat

During the Year 10 Retreat on 2 May, we participated in a series of different tasks as a group. Firstly, we started our day as an Oratory group. Brother Tristan ran us through some activities, before we came together as a year level and indulged in some morning tea. After our delicious morning tea we then gathered to discuss some of the worries we had. Brother Tristan also shared some stories, as an Oratory we all bonded, sharing our worries and giving advice. After this relaxed session, we had lunch. Lunch was a great opportunity to come together as a year level and speak to people that we don’t normally have a chance to see. Shortly after our year level gathered, we watched a video on a man by the name of Nick Vujicic. In great depth the film explored the idea that if you put your mind to it, and work with what you have, you can get anywhere in life. After watching this film we returned to school. It was a great bus ride as many boys from many Oratories came together and shared their stories.

In my personal opinion, the most interesting part was how we witnessed the story of Nick Vujicic and his extreme disadvantages in life. As a student it made me believe that I can do anything I put my mind to. He was an inspiration for all the boys there, and I am certain that they all share the same appreciation for this experience.

The Year 10 Retreat had many benefits. I am glad to say that the most beneficial thing for the our cohort was the experiences that were shared as Oratory groups. We all shared our problems and struggles that we have in common. It was a great opportunity for us to help each other and to listen to Brother Tristan’s advice on how we can get through our struggles together. This led to a feeling of belonging, as we now feel that we share a bond and have become closer as an Oratory class.
